One of the churches we went to had a pastor who spoke out of Nehemiah 4. The message was good, but one verse stood out to me in a big way. It seems to always be a verses that the pastors glide over that means the most to me, but I guess God has a reason for that.
That particular verse was 4:14. I loved the part about remembering the Lord and then fighting. Verse after verse in the Old Test. talk about how Israel forgot the Lord. Because they did not remember him or His statutes they fell away. There were verses that spoke of memorials between them and the Lord. Things that when their children saw them they would ask about. The answers were always that these were a way to look back and remember the great things that the Lord had done for them.
I had to ask myself, "what memorials are we setting up for our children to see?" Anything? So I am going to talk with Sean about getting some form of picture, trinkets, ect. for the times in our lives that we see God move in a mighty way. I would like to put them all in or around the same spot of the house. That way my children and see them and ask us what importance each one has.I think it will help build faith in God and serve as a reminder of the Lord, and how we are never to forget him.
In her book, A Woman After God's own Heart, Elizabeth George encourages women to ask themselves how they can serve their husbands each day. Though this is a good question, I feel led to ask myself a new one. When I wake up the the morning, instead of asking, "In what ways can I serve and help my husband today", I want to ask, "how can I fight for my marriage and my family today?" The main answer will always be the same, by REMEMBERING THE LORD!!! The little details involved, the acts of serving, may change from day to day, but will be pushed forward by keeping my mind on the main thing. The LORD!!!
Some of the verse I looked up and wish to apply:
Deut. 4:9,23,31; 6:12; 8:11
Psalm 59:11; 78:7; 103:2
Josh. 4:6,7,21-24; 24:15
Judges 3:7; 8:34
Eph. 4:1-3,22-27,29-32
